You'll need a free YouTube Data API key. Takes about 2 minutes to set up.
How to get your free API key:
- 1 Visit Google Cloud Console and sign in with your Google account
- 2 Create a new project (any name, e.g. "YT Pulse")
- 3 Go to APIs & Services → Library, search for and enable "YouTube Data API v3"
- 4 Go to APIs & Services → Credentials, click Create Credentials → API key
- 5 Copy your new key and paste it below
Tip: The free quota is 10,000 units/day — more than enough for personal use. YT Pulse uses just 1 unit per channel refresh.
Your privacy: Your API key is stored only in your browser's local storage — never on our server.
It is sent with each request so this server can call YouTube on your behalf, but it is not saved or logged anywhere.
Your channel list and watch history are also stored entirely in your browser.
